One day in the future passwords will be no more, but for the time being they are a right pain in the RS (see below and all we become clear).
The following simple method will create easily memorable, but highly complicated passwords that are extremely difficult to break. These passwords can also meet the requirements of most services as they contain numbers, letter and characters in upper and lower case.
STEP 1: Look at typed characters as phonetic sounds.
As an example I enclose the phonetic meanings I have assigned to the standard character set that you can use on all apps and websites. You don’t need to remember so many (I have been doing this for years), just the ones you need.
Character | Sounds like… | Examples – using characters to make the sound of words |
“ | Speech, speak, tell | |
£ | pound | Com£ – compound, |
$ | dollar | |
^ | hat | ^trick – hat trick, |
& | and | S& – sand, H& – hand. |
* | star | |
– | Dash, mid or middle | |
_ | Under, lower, below | Th_ – thunder, pl_ – plunder |
+ | Plus or add or sum | M+ – mad, +er – summer |
= | Equal(s) | |
{ | curly | |
[ | square | |
. | Dot, spot, stop | |
@ | At or and | H@ – hat or hand |
# | Hash (ash) or grid | Sl# – slash, |
/ | Slash or lean or forward | g/ – glean, |
\ | Lean or back | |
| | Up or tall | S| – stall, c| – cup |
1 | one | |
2 | To or too | S2L – stool, |
4 | for | |
8 | ate | F8 – fate, G8-gate |
10 | ten | 10t – tent, |
A | A | MA – may, |
B | Be or bee | Bst – beast |
C | See or sea | Ct – seat |
E | E | flE – flee or flea |
I | eye | |
P | Pea or pee | |
Q | Queue, cue | QT – qute |
R | Are or ar | RS – arse |
T | Tee or tea | |
U | you | |
Y | why |
STEP 2: Create a memorable phrase
Your phrase doesn’t have to have any meaning but all you have to do is remember it. Use your list of characters to help you create words that you can put together in a phrase.
STEP 3: Convert your phrase to gobbledegook
Convert your phrase into a stream of phonetic characters from your list so your phrase sounds the same when reading the characters. Don’t get too scientific about it; as long as it makes sense to you,
STEP 4: (Optional) Make even better Passwords
You can make this more difficult by using phonetic translations for other character sets, but they obviously have to be supported by whatever app or browser you will be using to type your password.
I suggest creating a long memorable phrase from which you can use various sections. For instance use one section for certain types of accounts and another second section for another type.
Change your password by just moving a couple of characters along your phrase.
That’s it!
All you have to do is remember a few characters and the sounds that you associate to them and then you can always convert your phrase to a string of almost meaningless characters.
